This project delivered the benefits of a purpose-built care facility to the Birchip community, housing acute patients and aged care residents in a welcoming and contemporary setting, combined with integrated operational efficiencies. The construction included nurse facilities, medical suites, aged care and ambulance bays.

Nicholson Construction delivered a new hospital building including 12 aged care beds, three acute inpatient beds and incorporated urgent care facilities. The refurbishment of the existing building vastly improved the amenities for East Wimmera Health Service staff.

We prioritised the need to place the new Birchip building within an attractive and therapeutic landscaped setting. Passive ESD strategies and enticing views to the outdoors were incorporated. Combined, these provided a collection of positive and uplifting spaces for all users.

The project’s design celebrates the existing large Edwardian house, which formed the original hospital. The scheme underscored the ongoing importance and viability of the health service to the district.
