Alizzi Properties Pty Ltd engaged Nicholson Construction in a Design & Construct contract with Select Architects to deliver Isuzu Ballarat’s new Truck Dealership.

The dealership site is approximately 15,000m2 in area and contains 3000m3 of concrete (delivered by 460 trucks during construction). It has a generous front showroom with space for three large vehicles, a vast rear warehouse /workshop, spare parts warehouse and offices with attached amenities.

The building is fitted with 25 roller doors to ensure large vehicle access throughout, with an under-roof area of 3700m2 finished with an epoxy floor of 2500m2. Key features include a steel portal frame construction with precast dado panels and extended trusses for a column-less design to front of house, allowing truck movement in the showroom.

Two precast firewalls achieve compartmentation, and allow for safe storage of flammables (fuel, oil, industry related chemicals) onsite, with an underground stormwater retention system (approx. 130kl) beneath a concrete hardstand. The site also includes a specialised truck mechanic’s pit.

Nicholson Construction took the project brief for the specialised truck pit and produced an appropriate, efficient design that met the brief and all modern safety and operational requirements (carbon monoxide detection, gas evacuation system, standard lighting). Trades were closely coordinated to ensure electrical, water and plumbing, compressed air, oil lines and waste were laid correctly in preparation for the pit and slab concrete pour.

This was the second time Nicholson Construction was engaged to deliver a new site for the Isuzu team.
