Our history is honoured in our company name, A W Nicholson Pty Ltd. Arthur William Nicholson (AWN) became the driving force of the business in the 30s, buying up old mansions and converting them to flats. A great civic leader in the community, recipient of an OBE in 1961 and Knighted in 1968, Sir Arthur was also Mayor of the City of Ballarat on four occasions.
Throughout the ’50s, 60s and 70s, the company continued to build homes and institutional buildings, however, with the expansion of state government’s control and centralisation over the construction of infrastructure, moved to a dedicated focus on commercial construction.
Richard William Nicholson returned to Ballarat to join the family business in 1996, becoming Managing Director in 1998. In 2006 Dean Stevens was promoted to Director after serving as the company’s General Manager for 8 years.
Over the years, following strong careers and internal promotions within the company –Paul Toye, Stephen Allen and Cathal Finnegan joined the Board of Directors. All bringing a breadth of skills and expertise to the Board in alignment with our mission to provide high-quality, cost-effective commercial construction services safely, reliably and consistently.
Built across four generations, Nicholson Construction moves into the future with a dedicated team of skilled and experienced Directors at the helm. Leading with a vision and mission that honours our past whilst evolving into the award-winning commercial construction company we are today.
