A two-storey public sector residential aged care facility with 36 beds, Camperdown RACD includes support services, landscaping and community engagement spaces. Each resident in the new facility enjoys a single bedroom with a private ensuite, promoting dignity, privacy and independence. The new facility replaced the ageing Merindah Lodge at Camperdown Hospital, and is operated by South West Healthcare.
The Administration Wing incorporates a range of amenities available to residents, staff and the public. Main Entry and Reception are located within the Administration Wing, and it is the first point of contact for all visitors. This area also features a Gym, Hairdresser, Café, Community Meeting Conference Room, Staff Offices, DDA Toilets, and the new Commercial Kitchen that caters to both the new aged care building as well as the existing Camperdown Hospital.
A state-of-art home for residents, underpinned by the dementia friendly design by ClarkeHopkinsClarke, this new aged care facility features 36 single bedrooms including private ensuites, spread across three wings. The central two wings are double storey and serviced by a bariatric compliant passenger lift. A key design pillar was to create a ‘homelike’ environment for the residents and move away from an outdated and clinic aged care environment. Each household wing features its own open plan Kitchenette and Dining Room, as well as Living Rooms and designated Quiet Spaces.
The household wings are supported by a wide variety of resident amenities including Craft Rooms, Resident Laundries, Reflection Room and Theatre space, and a Commercial Laundry. External spaces and landscaping add to the resident’s comfort, and the building is surrounded by landscaped garden areas, balconies and terraces, sunlit courtyards and a Seniors Exercise Yard.
