The Warrnambool Prevention and Recovery Centre (PARC) combines residential accommodation with recovery focused health support for people experiencing significant mental health issues to transition out of hospital – or to avoid admission.
Nicholson Construction were engaged to construct the entire project, consisting of 13 individual bedrooms, each with a private ensuite to create an architecturally designed home-like environment. In addition, the building also included common area services such as a fully equipped central kitchen and dining area, multiple relaxation spaces, and a fully equipped laundry.
The construction involved significant earth and civil works to remove large underground boulders, while the structure itself is comprised of a concrete raft slab, steel and timber frame with acoustic isolation of bedrooms and raked acoustic ceilings, and the mechanical system integrated into bedroom joinery and feature brickwork.
Other features include dedicated, secure mother and baby accommodation, offices and staff accommodation, an activity space, art room, sensory room, BBQ and large covered deck overlooking Brierley Reserve. The facility is 100% compliant with DHHS anti-ligature guidelines and is one of several PARCs/ YPARCs in regional Victoria delivered by Nicholson Construction.
